Ambleside to host sustainability seminar

The University of Cumbria is inviting local businesses to a two-day Leadership and Sustainability Seminar at its Ambleside campus, on Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 March.

The event is designed for small and medium-sized businesses that want to have a positive impact on the environment and local communities, and to provide leadership on the agenda.

There is an entry fee of £50 per day for North West based SMEs, but the event is being organised on a not-for-profit basis, with financial support from the Northern Leadership Academy.

Schedule

Speakers will include representatives from the University of Cumbria, local business consultants and environmental specialists.

The event will focus on how to incorporate sustainability into a successful business model, and on how leadership and sustainability influence each other.

Day one will look at how businesses can lead through innovation and strategic thinking, with a keynote presentation from Professor Thomas Lawton, a consultant, writer and educator who has advised some of the world’s most successful companies, on how to take their businesses to new heights.

Day two will focus on why environmental good practice makes good business sense, and it will start with a keynote address from Rebecca Willis, an experienced environmental business consultant.

Networking

Delegates will also have a chance to share ideas and network with a wide range of local businesses and experts in a World Café setting.

The Cumbria Business Environment Network (CBEN), which provides free environmental support to Cumbrian businesses through the ENWORKS programme, will also be exhibiting.

More information

Businesses interested in finding out more or registering to attend should contact the University of Cumbria, by emailing john.berry@cumbria.ac.uk or emma.watton@cumbria.ac.uk.

Non-SMEs and businesses from outside the North West of England can also attend for the full price of £150 per day.
